Posted on March 19th, 2009
I visit the Oceanário de Lisboa, the second largest Oceanarium in the world (behind Osaka’s), and mingle with some rather amazing creatures of the sea, and a few penguins of course.

Jardim da Estrela
Posted on March 16th, 2009
I hike up to Jardim da Estrela on my way to take tram 28. The gardens are home to some exotic botany, a massive tree (does anyone know what kind of tree is it?), and maybe the next incarnation of Christiano Ronaldo.
The church at the end is the Basilica da Estrela, which I intend to return to for its dome city views.

Mosteiro dos Jeronimos
Posted on March 15th, 2009
I visit the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos in the Belém district of Lisbon. Here lie the old bones of Portuguese navigators Vasco da Gama and Henry the Navigator.
The monastery took fifty years to build starting in 1502, and withstood the dreaded earthquake of 1755.
The cloister itself is worth a lot of shots.

The Ponte 25 de Abril was inspired by San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge and stretches 2 kilometers.
The massive steel structure was inaugurated in 1966.

Convento do Carmo
Posted on March 13th, 2009
The Convento do Carmo did not withstand the earthquake of 1755, and now makes for quite a decrepit site which houses a small archaeological museum.
