Toledo is remarkable in that all three, Christian, Islamic, and Hebrew cultures co-existed peacefully for centuries and so has serious heritage from all three.

El Greco’s, who’s masterpiece also hangs in these quarters, himself painted a view of Toledo dated 1600, from about where the train drops you off today:

Lunch at La Naviera

Posted on February 14th, 2009

I lunch at La Marisqueria La Naviera (map).

I have the Menu del Dia at €14, which is bit more than the usual €8-11 deals you normally get, but worth the cost for a hearty meal. I get the marzipan desert which is specialty from the region.

I take the train to Toledo (about). The fortress city, not to mention former capital of the Spanish Empire, is a mere half an hour from Madrid’s Atocha station.
